A country with an amazingly rich culture and deep religious belief, Nepal also has some of the most spectacular landscapes in th world.

In 1949, Nepal opened its frontiers to foreigners. The early attempts in climbing Mt. Everest were made from Tibet on the north face of the peak. The much talked about attempt by George Mallory and Andrew Irvine in 1942 was also on this face. Success came only in 1953, from the south face of the peak.

In 1950, an expedition led by Dr Charles Houston of America, along with Bill Tilman, the British explorer, entered the Solu Khumbu region,and laid the foundation of a route up Mt. Everest,via the West Cwm - Cwm is a mountaineering term which refers to a bowl of snow ,surrounded by mountains.
